Objective 1: explain what attachment is.
Objective 2: outline behaviour that shows an attachment to a specific person (primary attachment figure).
Objective 3: outline the learning theory explanation of attachment.
The specification states you need to know:

Task 2: Complete the attachment activity. Look at the images carefully. Can you identify any patterns in the behaviour shown? Are the adults relating to the babies and children in similar ways? Does this give you any ideas about why human beings make an attachment to specific people?

What is meant by attachment? (2 marks)
One explanation of attachment is sometimes known as the cupboard love explanation. This states that babies and children make an attachment to the person that feeds them.
Learning theory
According to learning theory babies and children learn to make an attachment to the person that feeds them. They learn to associate food and the pleasure that causes with the person that gives them food. Overtime the infant feels pleasure in the presence of the person who feeds them even when there is no food. They have made an attachment.

This video clip also illustrates classical conditioning in humans.
Task 6: You need to write an outline of learning theory and how it explains infants make an attachment to a mother figure. Use the information on the slides and your textbook to answer the question below.
